Why Choose Us
Dentistry you can hold us to
We have only just opened, so we will not ask you to take our word for anything. Here is exactly what you can expect from Rutherford Family Dental — and what to hold us to from your very first visit.

Choosing a dentist
Choosing a new dentist usually comes down to trust, and trust is normally borrowed from reviews and years on a sign. A new practice has neither — so instead we have made a short list of specific promises, and designed everything else around keeping them.
Being new has one real advantage: nothing here was inherited. Not the appointment lengths, not the equipment, and not the habit of fitting in as many people as a day will hold. We started from a blank page and asked what a visit to the dentist ought to feel like for a nervous adult, a busy parent and a grandparent who wants to keep their own teeth.
The answers became the eight commitments below. They are deliberately practical — things you will notice on the day rather than words on a wall — and each one is something you are entitled to ask about if it ever does not happen.
Eight commitments
Why Choose Rutherford Family Dental
Each of these shapes how the practice runs every day. Together they are the reason a visit here feels less like a clinic and more like being properly looked after.
- 01
Appointments with time built in
Most of what goes wrong in a dental visit comes from not having enough time for it. So we book fewer people, for longer. A first visit is a full hour, and the part that usually gets rushed — listening — is the part we protect.
- A full hour for every new-patient visit
- Conversation before anything clinical happens
- Extra time set aside if you tell us you are anxious
- 02
One clinician, consultation to review
Whoever plans your treatment carries it out and checks it afterwards. You are never passed between people who have to read your notes to catch up, and you never have to explain your history twice.
- The same clinician from first visit to follow-up
- One set of records for the whole family
- A name you can ask for when you call
- 03
Conservative care, modern diagnostics
Healthy enamel does not grow back, so if a tooth can be watched rather than drilled, we watch it. Digital X-rays, intra-oral scans and 3D imaging are used where they will genuinely change the plan — not as a routine add-on.
- The least invasive option always offered first
- Scans shown on the screen beside you and explained
- “Not yet” is always written into the plan as an option
- 04
A written plan with a price against every item
You leave with your options in writing and a cost against each one. Nothing is booked on the day unless you want it to be, and nothing is added halfway through treatment.
- Itemised costs before anything is booked
- Time to take the plan home and think it over
- No decisions asked of you while you are in the chair
- 05
Direct billing and payment that makes sense
We submit claims to most major insurance providers on your behalf, so you pay only your own portion at the desk. For larger treatment, we can confirm your coverage with your insurer before you commit.
- Direct billing to most major providers
- Predeterminations sent before treatment begins
- Interest-free instalments for larger treatment plans
- 06
The whole family under one roof
Check-ups, children's dentistry, orthodontics, cosmetic work, gum care and implants are all handled in-house. Parents and children can be seen in the same visit where it suits you, and referrals elsewhere are rarely needed.
- Children welcome from their very first tooth
- Invisalign, braces and implants without a referral
- Family members booked back to back on request
- 07
Comfort that is standard, not requested
A great many adults avoid the dentist out of anxiety, and very few enjoy admitting it. So the comforts are there whether you ask or not — and if you need more, the appointment is built differently from the start.
- Noise-cancelling headphones and weighted blankets
- Topical numbing before any injection, and an agreed stop signal
- Oral or IV sedation available where it genuinely helps
- 08
Same-day urgent care, six days a week
Dental pain does not wait for a convenient week. We hold appointments open every day we are open, including Saturdays, so a broken tooth, a lost crown or a swelling is seen the same day.
- Urgent slots held Monday to Saturday
- Triage by somebody clinical, not an answering service
- Emergencies seen whether or not you are already a patient
What we do differently
The visit most people expect, and the one we designed instead.
None of this is complicated. It simply takes more time per patient than a busier practice can afford — which is why we chose to keep our list of patients deliberately small.

Comfort & technology
Modern equipment, used with restraint
A new practice gets to choose its equipment from scratch, and we chose tools that make appointments shorter, gentler and easier to understand. But the technology is never the point — how you feel in the chair is.
For your comfort
- A calm room that does not smell like a clinic
- Noise-cancelling headphones and weighted blankets
- Topical numbing before every injection
- An agreed signal to stop at any moment
For accurate care
- Digital X-rays, only where they change the plan
- Intra-oral scanning instead of impression trays
- 3D imaging and in-house implant planning
- Scans reviewed together on the screen beside you
Everything under one roof
One practice for every
member of the family
From a toddler's first check-up to a grandparent's implant, care stays in one place, on one set of records — so nobody has to start again with somebody new.

Common questions
Choosing With Confidence
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes — patients of every age, from toddlers to grandparents. Families are welcome to book together, and you do not need a referral from another dentist to make an appointment.
I have not been to a dentist in years. Will I be lectured?
No. People put dental care off for all sorts of reasons, and none of them need explaining. Your first visit is a conversation and a thorough examination, and you leave with a written plan and the time to decide what to do about it.
Do you bill my insurance directly?
For most major providers, yes. We submit the claim for you, so you pay only your own portion at the desk. For larger treatment we can send a predetermination first, so you know your exact coverage before you commit.
What if I do not have dental insurance?
You receive the same written, itemised plan as everyone else, with the price set out before anything is booked. Larger treatment can be spread across interest-free monthly instalments.
Can my whole family be seen on the same day?
Where it suits you, yes. Tell us when you book and we will arrange back-to-back appointments, with everyone kept on one set of family records.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
We are open until 7 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturdays, so appointments can fit around school and work.
What happens if I have a dental emergency?
Call the practice. Urgent appointments are held every day we are open, including Saturdays, and you will speak to somebody clinical who can tell you how quickly you need to be seen — whether or not you are already a patient.
I am nervous about treatment. What can you do?
Let us know when you book. We will allow extra time, agree a stop signal, and go entirely at your pace, with no treatment attempted on a first visit unless you ask for it. Oral or IV sedation is available where it genuinely helps.
See the difference for yourself.
Book a first consultation — a full hour, a written plan, and no obligation to go ahead with anything afterwards.
