A practice built the way we always wanted to work
Rutherford Family Dental has just opened its doors — deliberately, and with a fairly specific idea of how an appointment ought to feel.
Why we opened
Modern dentistry has extraordinary tools and almost no time in which to use them properly. Scanning a mouth takes minutes. Understanding what a person actually wants from their teeth takes considerably longer — and it is the part that usually gets cut first.
So we designed the practice backwards from the appointment. Longer slots. A smaller book, kept deliberately small. A room that does not smell like a clinic, and a team small enough that you will recognise everyone in it by your second visit. Being new meant we could decide all of this from a blank page rather than inherit it.
The clinical standard is deliberately uncompromising — digital scanning, 3D imaging, in-house implant planning — but none of that is the point. The point is that you leave understanding exactly what is happening in your own mouth, and that nothing gets recommended to you which we would not choose ourselves.
Our mission
To make excellent dentistry feel unremarkable — so that looking after your teeth becomes something you simply do, rather than something you postpone.

About Dr. Ray Basi
Rutherford Family Dental
Dr. Ray Basi is a dentist born and raised in Edmonton. He is proud to serve the community he has always called home and is excited to welcome patients to Rutherford Family Dental.
Dr. Basi provides comprehensive general dentistry with a focus on creating a comfortable, straightforward, and positive experience for his patients. His clinical interests include restorative dentistry, crowns, root canal treatment, wisdom teeth and other dental extractions, and preventive care. He believes in taking the time to explain treatment options clearly and working with each patient to develop a plan that fits their individual needs.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Basi enjoys golfing, running, travelling, and spending time with family and friends. Being born and raised in Edmonton, he values being part of the local community and looks forward to building long-term relationships with patients and families in the community.

Every new patient gets a full appointment slot rather than a gap between other people. Most of it is conversation — what has happened before, what worries you, and what you actually want from your teeth.

The conservative option first
If a tooth can be watched rather than drilled, we watch it. We would rather forgo the work than remove healthy enamel that never grows back.

One clinician, start to finish
Whoever plans your treatment carries it out and reviews it. You are never handed between people who have to read your notes to catch up.

Prices before treatment
You receive a written plan with costs against every item before anything is booked. There are no additions discovered halfway through.

The People We Look After
We have only just opened, so there is no wall of patient photographs to show you yet. These are the people the practice was built for, and what we look after for each of them.
Short, unhurried first visits with a parent in the room — counting teeth, fluoride varnish and sealants, and an eye on how the adult teeth are coming through.
Parents and children seen in the same visit where it suits you, on one set of records, so nobody has to explain their history twice.
Clear aligners for people finishing something that was meant to happen at fourteen — scanned, simulated and retained properly at the end.
People who wake with a tight jaw or worn front teeth. Custom night guards, bite assessment and the wear monitored rather than guessed at.
Gum health watched closely, restorations kept conservative, and implants where a tooth has already gone — so eating never becomes something you plan around.
